Navy Receives Anti-Submarine Craft ‘Amini’

Defence news – VoiceOfGP

According to the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Navy received ‘Amini’, an Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), on November 5, 2026. The vessel was indigenously designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, following the Classification Rules of the Indian Register of Shipping.

The warship is propelled by waterjets and equipped with lightweight torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers, and sonars to detect and engage underwater threats. According to the ministry, the vessel will strengthen the Navy’s anti-submarine, coastal surveillance, and mine-laying capabilities. The ship’s name is derived from Amini Island in Lakshadweep, continuing the legacy of the former INS Amini.

The ministry stated that the vessel features over 80 percent indigenous content, supporting domestic defence manufacturing and reducing import dependence under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
