According to the Ministry of Finance, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized more than 55,000 smuggled e-cigarettes at the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata on 24th October 2026. Acting on intelligence, officers intercepted two Nepal-bound transshipment containers that had been mis-declared as “water glass” and “ceramic mugs”.

The first container yielded 40,000 e-cigarettes of the IGET brand, while the second container contained around 15,000 pieces of various brands including VTV, VOKO, Bang, and Ejoy hidden within the declared cargo. The total seizure is valued at ₹13.50 crore and was executed under the Customs Act. The Ministry noted that electronic cigarettes and Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems are prohibited in India under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019. During the financial year 2026-27, the DRI has reportedly seized roughly 3,00,000 e-cigarettes valued at over ₹120 crore across various ports, airports, and ICDs.
