Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Shri Prataprao Jadhav launched the fourth edition of the Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign (TFYC 4.0) in New Delhi. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the 60-day nationwide campaign aims to prevent tobacco initiation among young people, encourage cessation, strengthen enforcement of tobacco control laws, and promote tobacco-free environments.
The latest edition places a special focus on higher educational institutions, encouraging universities and colleges to promote tobacco-free campuses and youth-led awareness. Previous editions of the campaign have led to over 5.8 lakh educational institutions and more than 73,000 villages being declared tobacco-free.
TFYC 4.0 will be implemented through a six-pronged strategy involving public awareness, enforcement of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA) 2019, digital outreach, and expansion of tobacco-free villages and educational institutions under a whole-of-government approach.
