According to data released by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) recorded a year-on-year growth of 6.7 percent in September 2026. The quick estimate for the IIP stands at 124.3, compared to 116.5 in September 2025.

The growth was largely supported by a 7.6 percent increase in the manufacturing sector and an 11.2 percent growth in the electricity and gas supply sector. Within manufacturing, 17 out of 23 industry groups recorded positive growth over the previous year, with significant contributions from the manufacture of electrical equipment, motor vehicles, and rubber and plastics products.

Based on use-based classification, intermediate goods, capital goods, and primary goods emerged as the top three positive contributors to the growth. Additionally, the ministry released final revisions for the August 2026 IIP data, which stands at a growth rate of 7.8 percent.
