Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla stated that books are powerful instruments for transforming lives, broadening perspectives, and driving positive social change. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 29th Kochi International Book Festival in Keralam, he noted that while digital technology provides easy access to information, true knowledge and deeper understanding come from reading books and gaining life experiences.
Highlighting India’s linguistic and cultural diversity, Shri Birla remarked that the country’s varied traditions and languages are its greatest strengths, with democracy acting as the unifying force. He praised Keralam’s achievements in education, literature, science, and technology, acknowledging its status as India’s first fully literate state and commending its library movement and reading traditions.
