ONDC DigiDukaan Connects Over 21,000 Kiranas to FMCG Brands for Digital Procurement

Economy news – VoiceOfGP

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) convened a roundtable with over 40 fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) leaders to discuss digitising India’s kirana retail network through ONDC DigiDukaan, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said.

DigiDukaan allows neighbourhood retailers to discover and purchase products across various brands, distributors, and wholesalers via a single digital platform. The system aims to strengthen existing supply routes rather than replace them, while providing transparent pricing and trade schemes. According to the ministry, DigiDukaan has onboarded over 21,000 retailers and more than 450 brands across Hyderabad, Jaipur, and Mumbai.

The roundtable explored establishing a shared digital identity for kirana stores, micro-warehousing infrastructure, and credit facilities tied to digital purchase transactions. ONDC stated it will focus its next phase on expanding distributor and brand participation in Mumbai, particularly North Mumbai.

What it means

  • Kirana retailers can use a single digital interface to discover and order goods across multiple brands and distributors with direct visibility into pricing and trade schemes.
  • ONDC plans to expand brand and distributor onboarding in Mumbai, particularly North Mumbai, while consolidating operations in its existing markets.
