Government news – VoiceOfGP

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi stated that the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has become a mass movement, ensuring savings and welfare for citizens. Speaking at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026, he highlighted that India is completing roughly one lakh rooftop solar installations every six days through the initiative.

According to the Ministry, the rooftop solar programme is helping millions of households achieve zero electricity bills and earn income by selling surplus electricity back to the grid. The Minister noted that India’s total installed solar capacity has grown from 3 GW in 2014 to 172 GW. Module manufacturing capacity has surpassed 200 GW, while solar cell manufacturing has reached approximately 45 GW.

During the summit, the RTSE Vendor Buddy tool was launched to assist rooftop solar vendors with assessing roof layouts, designing 3D solar systems, and creating technical drawings and bills of materials. Additionally, international country sessions with Norway, Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, and France focused on strengthening bilateral ties in hydrogen, offshore wind, and financing.

What it means

  • Rooftop solar vendors can use the newly launched RTSE Vendor Buddy tool to assess roof layouts, design 3D solar systems, and generate technical drawings and bills of materials in one workflow.
