A high-level meeting was held at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi on November 3, 2026, to review preparations for the upcoming Kashi Tamil Sangamam 5.0 (KTS 5.0). Chaired by Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Smt. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, the meeting brought together senior officials from the Union Ministry of Education, the Uttar Pradesh government, district administration, BHU, and Indian Railways.
According to the Ministry of Education, KTS 5.0 will take place from November 28 to December 12, 2026, focusing on the theme ‘Thirukkural Payilvom-Thirukkural Abhyas Karen’. The event aims to connect youth with the classical Tamil text Thirukkural. Around 1,400 participants from Tamil Nadu, divided into seven groups of 200, will travel for eight days—including four days of travel and four days of visits—to Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya. Additionally, 50 teachers from Tamil Nadu will visit Uttar Pradesh to teach Thirukkural in schools and colleges.
The programme will also feature a nationwide Students’ Engagement Programme across 1,000 Higher Education Institutions. IIT Madras and Banaras Hindu University are acting as nodal coordinating institutions, while the Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai handles digital outreach and publications.
