The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released “The Register of Interconnect Agreements (Fourth Amendment) Regulations, 2026”. According to the Ministry of Communications, these regulations will take effect from 1st January 2027.
The updated framework replaces older physical submission requirements with online registration through a portal established by TRAI. Service providers must now submit electronic copies of interconnect agreements and modifications in text-searchable PDF format. Agreements in force as on 1st January 2027 must be submitted within fifteen days from that date, while new agreements and modifications must be filed within fifteen days of their execution or modification.
Additionally, the amendments enable online access to the Register of Interconnect Agreements for the public and introduce a revised fee structure, setting the inspection fee at ₹1,500 per hour and copies or extracts at ₹500 per page. A graded financial disincentive framework has also been prescribed for contravention of the provisions.
