Government news – VoiceOfGP

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) released a backgrounder on India’s chemicals and petrochemicals sector, highlighting its manufacturing expansion, investment potential, and ongoing infrastructure initiatives. According to the release, the sector is valued at around USD 220 billion and is projected to reach USD 300 billion by 2030. The industry includes approximately 13,000 large-scale units and 4.45 lakh micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

To strengthen domestic manufacturing and industrial infrastructure, the government permits 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) through the automatic route for most chemical sectors. The backgrounder also outlines the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana Rasayan (BHAVYA Rasayan) Scheme, approved in July 2026, which aims to establish three dedicated chemical parks with a total financial outlay of ₹3,030 crore over five years from FY 2026–27 to FY 2030–31. Additionally, the government has implemented 37 Quality Control Orders as of August 2026 to mandate specific standards for chemicals and petrochemicals.
