According to a Press Information Bureau backgrounder, the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), or VB-G RAM G, came into force on 1 July 2026, replacing Mahatma Gandhi NREGA. The framework provides a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment every financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer for unskilled manual work. The wage rate ranges from ₹300 to ₹450 per day.

The initiative focuses on water security, core rural infrastructure, livelihood infrastructure, and extreme weather mitigation through bottom-up planning via Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans (VGPPs). These plans use tools like GIS and PM Gati Shakti for asset mapping and local gap assessment. Implementation relies on digital systems including e-KYC, face authentication, geo-tagging, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) payments.

As of September 2026, the scheme has recorded 10.88 crore active workers, generated over 31.69 crore person-days, and achieved a women’s participation rate of 61.65 percent. An interim allocation of ₹93,841 crore has been made to States and UTs for the 2026-27 financial year, with a first installment of ₹25,880 crore issued as a Mother Sanction.
