According to the Ministry of Defence, ships of the First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy—comprising INS Tir, INS Sujata, and ICGS Sarathi—departed from Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 29 October 2026. The visit marked the end of a port call aimed at reinforcing defence cooperation and the maritime partnership between India and Sri Lanka.
During the visit, Indian Navy personnel engaged in professional exchanges, including sea trainees visiting the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee and Sri Lankan cadets visiting the 1TS ships. The visit also featured community outreach such as a beach clean-up, ship tours for the local community and Indian diaspora, and a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with SLNS Nandimithra upon departure to enhance operational coordination between the two navies.
