According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Digi Yatra has started trials for international passengers at seven airports across India. The trials are scheduled to run from November to December 2026 and allow eligible Indian nationals with e-passports to use the system on select international flights operated by Air India and IndiGo.
The trials are taking place at Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai, and Amritsar airports at designated touchpoints including terminal entry points, Security Hold Areas, and boarding gates. Passenger feedback from these trials will help plan a wider rollout in 2027.
To use the facility, eligible passengers must create an e-passport-based Verifiable Credential via the Digi Yatra app by scanning their passport’s Machine Readable Zone, reading the chip using NFC, and taking a selfie. The Ministry stated that the facility complements rather than replaces existing processes, and travellers must still carry standard travel documents and complete all mandatory immigration and airline checks.
