Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr Virendra Kumar launched the ‘Vayo Samman Rashtriya Abhiyan’ under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) in New Delhi. The campaign aims to strengthen intergenerational solidarity and promote respect for the experiences and contributions of senior citizens.
During the event, the Minister released a handbook on the campaign and launched the ‘Vayo SAATHI’ volunteer initiative. Two Memoranda of Understanding were also signed with the Shri Ram Chandra Mission and Adhyatma Vigyan Satsang Kendra to promote holistic well-being through meditation, yoga, and wellness programmes.
The Abhiyan relies on a ‘5C’ model of Connect, Converse, Co-create, Contribute and Continue, spanning twelve thematic areas such as digital literacy, health, and wellness. Officials stated that citizens aged 18 years and above can register as Vayo SAATHI volunteers through the SCW SAMAVESH Portal or JEEVAN App.
