Government news – VoiceOfGP

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah reviewed the law and order and internal security situation in Gujarat at a high-level meeting in Ahmedabad. The meeting was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, the Union Home Secretary, and other senior officials from central and state departments.

During the meeting, the Home Minister called for stronger border and coastal surveillance along Gujarat’s nearly 2,340-kilometre-long coastline, emphasizing better coordination between the Border Security Force, State Police, Coast Guard, and central agencies. He praised the state’s implementation of new criminal laws, noting that 92 per cent of chargesheets were filed within 60 days, and directed authorities to clear over 25,000 pending forensic cases through a special drive.

Addressing drug trafficking, Shri Shah directed that operations target entire drug networks and kingpins rather than small-time peddlers, while prioritizing financial investigations to seize illicit assets. He also called for enhancing the capacity of the 1930 helpline and S4C to tackle cybercrime, strengthening counter-terrorism agencies, and expediting the legal identification and deportation of illegal foreign nationals.

What it means

  • Authorities must launch a special drive to clear more than 25,000 pending forensic cases.
