The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) Sub-Committee on GRAP has invoked Stage-III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the entire National Capital Region (NCR) with immediate effect. According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the decision follows a review of air quality after Delhi recorded a daily average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 382, placing it in the ‘Very Poor’ category. Forecasts from IMD and IITM also indicated that the AQI could slip into the ‘Severe’ category.
All actions under Stage-III are required to be implemented immediately by all concerned agencies in the NCR, alongside existing Stage-I and Stage-II measures. Pollution Control Boards of NCR States and the DPCC have been advised to ensure strict enforcement. The sub-committee has also appealed to citizens to follow the Citizen Charter of Stage-III, which includes measures such as walking or cycling for short distances, choosing cleaner transport, avoiding coal and wood for heating, and following hybrid modes for primary schools and work-from-home when instructed.
What it means
- Stage-III of GRAP is enforced across the Delhi-NCR region with immediate effect.
- Agencies must implement all actions under Stage-III along with the already active Stage-I and Stage-II measures.
