Piyush Goyal Chairs Roundtable on Biopharma Startups and Bioeconomy

Government news – VoiceOfGP

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal chaired a high-level roundtable on strengthening India’s biopharma startup ecosystem in New Delhi, according to a government press release. The meeting was organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in collaboration with NITI Aayog and the NITI Frontier Tech Hub.

The discussions focused on accelerating bioeconomy growth through streamlined regulations, a proposed Regulatory Sandbox, Single Window Clearance, and simplified patent application processes. Participants highlighted the need to build shared infrastructure, such as laboratory space, testing facilities, and clinical trial sites, to lower costs for emerging companies.

The roundtable also addressed measures to implement Biopharma SHAKTI—which was announced in Union Budget 2026–27—expedite customs clearance for lab equipment and reagents, and enhance indigenous life sciences manufacturing through stronger inter-ministerial coordination.
