Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has inaugurated an Advanced Radiotherapy Facility at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rajkot. Built with an investment of approximately ₹39 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, the facility is designed to improve access to specialised cancer care across Saurashtra and Kutch.
The ministry stated that the new centre will cater to an estimated catchment population of 1.54 crore people across districts including Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Bhavnagar, and Morbi. Eligible Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) beneficiaries will receive cancer treatment at the facility at no cost, while other patients will be charged subsidised rates.
Equipped with a High Energy Linear Accelerator, a Wide Bore CT Simulator, and a High Dose Rate Brachytherapy Unit, the radiation oncology department operates within an integrated cancer framework covering chemotherapy and surgical oncology. The facility is expected to handle an initial caseload of 500 to 700 patients annually.
