[EDITOR NOTE — DELETE BEFORE PUBLISHING] Date of circular is October 22, 2026. Implementation is four months from issuance.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has announced a new framework regarding margin waivers on subsequent buy and sell transactions following an Early Pay-In (EPI) of securities in the cash segment. According to the circular, when a client has a net sell obligation and the EPI request for the sold securities is successfully accepted by the clearing corporation, the clearing corporation shall not collect margins on the client’s subsequent buy or sell positions up to the accepted EPI amount on a real-time basis.
The circular states that clearing corporations will compute the available EPI value on the trade date as the lower of the EPI value done or the value of securities sold. If a client squares off the sale position after availing the EPI benefit, the EPI value will be removed, and any resulting margin shortfall will be blocked from the proprietary collateral of the trading or clearing member. The provisions of this circular will come into force four months from the date of its issuance.
