A high-level team led by the Chairperson of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reviewed paddy straw management measures across Ropar, Hoshiarpur, and Amritsar districts in Punjab. The delegation visited thermal power plants, compressed bio-gas plants, biomass units, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and agricultural fields to assess ground-level preparedness for preventing stubble burning during the harvesting season.
CAQM directed state authorities to achieve prescribed targets for co-firing paddy straw in thermal power plants and strictly enforce emission standards. The commission also stressed the need for coordinated efforts to ensure timely and adequate availability of Crop Residue Management (CRM) machinery for farmers as harvesting accelerates.
To minimize stubble burning incidents, the commission instructed state officials to strengthen active field monitoring, address operational gaps promptly, and maximize both in-situ and ex-situ utilization of crop residue.
