National Consultation Held to Finalise Watershed Guidelines

Government news – VoiceOfGP

The Department of Land Resources (DoLR), the National Rainfed Area Authority (NRAA), and the ICAR–National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (ICAR-NBSS&LUP) organised a two-day national-level consultation meeting in Nagpur.

The event focused on discussing the Draft National Technical Guidelines for Improved Watershed Management under the World Bank-assisted Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development (REWARD) programme. Senior policymakers, technical experts, researchers, and state representatives attended the meeting to deliberate on technology-driven and participatory watershed development.

Discussions during the consultation covered scientific approaches like Land Resource Inventory, GIS and remote sensing applications, financial management, and community participation through farmer groups. Officials emphasised that the final guidelines will serve as a foundational framework for future watershed development programmes, including WDC-PMKSY 3.0.
