The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment announced that the PM-DAKSH skill development scheme has been subsumed into the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’s Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) starting from financial year 2024-25. The decision was taken to avoid duplication, as PM-DAKSH operated as a complementary initiative and drew job roles from the Skill India Digital Hub portal.

Launched in 2020-21, PM-DAKSH provided skill training to Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, de-notified tribes, and sanitation workers, including waste pickers. The ministry stated that between 2020-21 and 2023-24, a total of 1,87,305 candidates received training and 96,162 secured employment.

Against an allocation of ₹276.47 crore over that four-year period, actual expenditure stood at ₹309.5 crore. Under the scheme’s rules, empanelled training institutions were required to ensure at least 70% placement for trained candidates to receive their final 30% reimbursement instalment.
