The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has strengthened air pollution control measures on national highways and expressways across the Delhi-National Capital Region ahead of the winter season, according to an official release. To curb dust, the authority has deployed nearly 60 water sprinklers and tankers, 14 anti-smog guns, 23 mechanical road sweepers, two tractor-mounted broomers, and over 900 workers. Additionally, 13 mechanical road sweepers are operational along a 137-kilometer stretch of national highways within the region.
During a review meeting, NHAI technical member Alok Dipankar directed ground teams to ensure the full deployment of equipment and regular operation of anti-smog guns in strict compliance with norms set by the Commission for Air Quality Management. Officials were instructed to monitor daily activities and submit geo-tagged progress reports. The review also covered traffic decongestion projects like the Dwarka Expressway and the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway to help reduce vehicular emissions.
