Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) new Data Centre and Cyber Security Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The facilities are intended to reinforce the country’s digital banking backbone and provide specialised training to counter evolving digital threats against the financial system.

Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister said protecting digital banking infrastructure and computing systems is critical as attacks can target a nation’s economy. He noted that safeguarding the financial sector requires modern technical facilities alongside skilled personnel trained with up-to-date tools to handle changing cyber threats.

He also highlighted the expansion of formal banking over the past decade through initiatives like Jan Dhan accounts, RuPay cards, and credit support through the Mudra and PM SVANidhi schemes. He added that Odisha’s economy is increasingly embracing technology, data centres, and semiconductors alongside its traditional mineral-based industries.
