The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a ₹1 lakh penalty on Hogar Technologies and Innovations LLP for misleading advertisements of walkie-talkies that failed to disclose mandatory operating frequencies and licensing rules. The authority stated that product listings on websites must provide key regulatory information to enable informed consumer choices, even if the website does not offer direct online sales.
This order is part of an ongoing enforcement drive against non-compliant walkie-talkie listings. The CCPA identified over 16,970 non-compliant listings across various platforms and issued notices to 13 e-commerce firms. Final orders have been passed against 12 entities, accumulating penalties of ₹58 lakh.
Penalties of ₹10 lakh each were levied on Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Meta, and TradeIndia, while ₹1 lakh fines were imposed on JioMart and six other entities. Several platforms have challenged these orders before high courts and consumer tribunals.
