The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is organising an eight-day Shilp Samagam Mela 2026 in Guwahati, Assam, according to a press release by the Press Information Bureau. The event is being held at the Farm Gate in Khanapara and is open to the public daily until Wednesday, October 28.
According to the ministry, the fair features 75 artisans, including 31 women, displaying around 40 varieties of handloom and handicraft products from various parts of the country, including the Northeast. The event aims to provide artisans a platform to directly exhibit and sell their products, connect with customers, and improve their market access and livelihoods.
The initiative also promotes the India-Tulip program, which helps market products through physical and e-commerce platforms. The fair supports artisans associated with three national corporations under the ministry, focusing on the economic empowerment of Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, Safai Mitras, and Denotified Tribes.
